The underlying philosophy was to provide children with different, unusual and exciting forms on which to base their own play ideas, without being prescriptively led. Maximising the variety and flexibility of potential games and encouraging the children to explore and learn from the wilderness space.
The structures were derived from looking at the wilderness itself, seedpods, trees and wildlife. Fabricated from natural materials and traditional techniques they were designed to sit comfortably in the landscape and create inspiring sculptural and architectural features for both adults and children. Offering a less packaged or confined play experience, the equipment was designed to blur the boundaries between natural play opportunities and the man-made.
