SIMPLE FORMS

The vision for this project was to create an accessible tree house that maximised the relationship with the landscape.

From the beginning it was clear to us that the project's success hinged on combining different disciplines: furniture, landscaping, carpentry, engineering, architecture and craft.

We developed three simple forms, the rectangle, circle and triangle: creating three distinct ways of engaging with the river, the trees and the sky.

The structure and interior aesthetic were a re-invention of the traditional woodland cabin, combining traditional rustic materials with more luxurious modern comforts. To maximise space the furniture was hidden in the walls with their outline drawn in shadow gaps. The experience of using the furniture is a playful one, as each component opens in an unexpected way revealing a more rustic cabin behind.

The most unexpected part of the tree house is that the entire roof of the triangle opens up, literally letting the sky in and giving uninterrupted views of the valley and stars.

The structure is engineered to stand on stilts directly on the riverbed and meets accessible building regulations, whilst not compromising on the fun and form of the tree house.
