Our client engaged us to design an oak framed pergola for a sunny corner of a walled garden. We were interested in creating a formal structure but avoiding traditional braces. The result was a bracing corbel with some interesting hybrid interlocking joints and two simple repeated mouldings. The pergola has a retractable shade that hangs underneath the structure.
