For Lewes Artwave 2019, we were invited to design a playful intervention at the Depot cinema. We designed a simple, playful experiment, encouraging both children and adults to explore the relationship between play and rules. The intervention consists of several low level fixed and movable platforms with light planks to bridge the platforms. The public are encouraged to play with these objects and create games and paths around the exhibition space. The signpost stated, ‘Keep off the Grass,’ both inviting rebellion and encouraging the public to use the available materials to traverse the site without touching the grass. We further played with signs saying, ‘Break the rules’ and ‘Play at your own risk’!
