A huge Douglas fir tree was felled at Belsay. Given the disruption required to move it, Studio Hardie were commissioned to create seating from it, for an outdoor classroom. Inspired by the stone formations in the Quarry Garden, we carefully selected individual logs and chainsaw carved them into rock forms, laying them out in a crescent. The classroom offers a focused and quiet area and plays on the picturesque theme of man-made natural landscapes.
