PROBLEM SOLVING
George Clarke came to us with a 1970’s static caravan on its last legs. The brief was to reinvent it into a small, affordable yet comfortable holiday retreat for him and his family, that maximised the beautiful surroundings of a site in Cumbria.
The challenge as we saw it, was how and what to use of the original rusty caravan. It was in such a tired state this was not obvious. We ended up deciding to keep the skin and totally rebuild the structure and interior layout.
This project was all about balancing form, function and weight. Getting the design right is the key to success in any small compact space. Everything should have at least two functions; this multi-functional use means you can have everything you need without compromising the living space.
By creating three-cleaver bunk pods and a small master bedroom we were able to liberate living space. The multi-functional use led to some of the most diverse and interesting inventions on storage and problem solving.
